What is Co-production?

You can print our giftbooks in your language. We will print all your books for you in the Far East and deliver to you. Printing is in co-production, where we print several languages together every time we print each title. The 4-colour designs are the same for all languages and the black text is changed for your printing.

We can also print co-productions in languages where the text runs in a different direction to English, such as Japanese, Chinese, Arabic and Hebrew.

Backing up our Foreign Rights sales team of 6 people is a dedicated production team of 6 people, all committed to and experienced in printing 40 different languages. They help you with:

  • materials for translation
  • getting titles press ready
  • ensuring your books are printed to high quality standards
  • your documentation for clearance and customs
  • Prompt delivery

We are a 'backlist' company. We publish a relatively small number of new titles each year. We offer you the biggest list available of quality giftbooks that sell well. They reprint in many languages year after year after year.

What makes a Helen Exley co-production easy?

  • 95% of our printings are in co-production twice a year: 5% are in co-production once a year.
  • With careful planning you can easily schedule your reprints with us.
  • There is no need to buy the same quantity of each title; you can simply order what you want.

Your prices

  • Your co-production prices are on a pre-agreed price scale so your costs are transparent and fixed.  
  • Each title you print will already be on press, so your price scale will be relatively 'flat'.  Of course, printing more will give you a better price - yet you can print small runs of 2,000 and 3,000 at economically workable prices.

Keeping your stocks low

  • Less capital is needed: there is no need to fill your warehouse with inventory as you can get a reprint every 6 months.  You can run a good Helen Exley programme with a relatively small stock cost.
  • Take fewer risks: with less inventory you lower your risk of slow-selling lines or unsold stock.

Display solutions?

We produce displays in bulk, and can pass on the benefit of economies of scale to you. We can help you with successful display and merchandising solutions that are tried and tested ways of selling giftbooks effectively. Find out more

What if you need books now?

If we cannot offer a co-production to suit you, and you need an urgent reprint, you can print "solus",  at a small premium. Your printing material is held at the printers at all times and the printing lead time is something like 6 weeks (13 weeks to European warehouse).

What about delivery?

Delivery is available with 3 options:

  • FOB Far East - usually FOB Hong Kong
  • CIF port - usually all major ports
  • DDU your warehouse

Most of our partners find our DDU service the quickest, most efficient and cheapest option.

What happens if things go wrong?

We try our best.  However, nothing is ever perfect and, occasionally, things go wrong.  Our production and sales teams are both dedicated to making everything run smoothly for you.  We ensure any problems with files, printers, shipping or clearance are quickly solved. Our aim is to build relationships with all our co-production partners to strengthen our business together.
